After Alexandria sophomores’ scores on a standardized test did not meet expectations, school officials are increasing academic rigor. According to the Herald Bulletin, roughly 50% of English scores and 70% of math scores fell below expectations on the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), which determines college readiness. Officials say changes they have in mind would not extend the school day but would give teachers about five more hours of teaching time each semester.
