Seventh-Grade Drug Testing Starts In January

Union County schools will begin a new drug-testing program in January. About 60 percent of area middle schools have drug-testing programs, but the age groups vary. The school board has decided to begin with seventh-graders, at least for now. If testing shows high incidences of drug use in seventh-graders, the district might move testing down to the sixth-grade level to try to catch the problem earlier.
