Today, America heads to the polls – on the ballot, a new leader for the country and new leadership on the local level. Here in east central Indiana early voting is reported as brisk with some counties reporting long lines on Friday as residents took advantage of the early vote opportunities.
In the race for Indiana Governor, Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb is facing Democrat John Gregg. Holcomb filled in for Republican Gov. Mike Pence when he accepted the nomination to run for Vice President under Donald Trump.
Indiana ballots have changed this year – a straight-party vote will not count for multiple-choice races such as county council, which will require individual votes.
It’s a race that’s getting national attention: Evan Bayh and Todd Young square off for the vacated U.S. Senate seat of Dan Coats.
A local educator is hoping for a top spot in the state: Yorktown Community Schools Superintendent Jennifer McCormick is challenging Glenda Ritz for the office of state superintendent of public instruction.
