IU study looks at cancer center advertising

You probably have seen them. TV ads for cancer treatment centers. A new study by Indiana University and the University of Pittsburgh has found that ad spending by the cancer centers, 12 in all, have more than tripled in the last 10 years or so. The concern, according to one researcher, is if these ads are misleading or exaggerating treatments, or encouraging patients to use treatment centers based on emotion, or not spelling out costs for out-of-network care. The study is published in the JAMA Internal Medicine Journal.
