An abandoned newborn baby was found by an 9-year-old girl in northwestern Indiana yesterday in her family’s backyard. It happened in Lake County, the sheriff’s said the girl carried the infant inside and called Lowell police. The baby was found with the umbilical cord and placenta still attached and the baby could have been there as long as a day. The baby is expected to recover.
