After about a decade of work, Muncie’s quiet zone plan goes into effect Friday night at Midnight. The idea to lessen train horns to benefit downtown residents and a new Courtyard hotel came to reality after million of dollars was spend by the railroad companies and the city to close certain crossings to vehicle traffic and install signs and other crash prevention features to reduce accidents. Motorists will see signs stating “No Train Horn” at crossings where the quiet zone is in effect.
