Indiana isn’t a battleground state in the presidential election but has tight races for open U.S. Senate and governor seats. Democrat John Gregg hopes to end a 12-year Republican hold on the governor’s office. GOP Rep. Todd Young aims to defeat Democrat Evan Bayh, who has never lost an election dating back to 1986. A barrage of attack ads have tarnished the moderate image Bayh built over his time as Indiana’s governor and 12 years in the Senate before he didn’t seek re-election six years ago.
