The mayor of Muncie is releasing new details surrounding the sudden resignation of the city’s police chief. Mayor Dennis Tyler says Police Chief Steve Stewart submitted his resignation on Monday. But on Tuesday, Stewart then sent a letter for retirement. Tyler says he was surprised Stewart resigned and was expecting the chief to instead, retire in January. Both Tyler and Stewart said the two had a disagreement. Neither side will comment further.
